Moms got talent

These are some of the paintings my mother  did before she got married.  I wish she had taken her talent seriously  and continued painting.

Vincent Van Gogh on Talent: "the art trade brings with it certain prejudices ... particularly ideas that painting is a gift -— well yes, a gift, but not as they make it appear; one must reach out and take it (and that taking is a difficult thing), not wait until it manifests itself of its own accord. ... one learns by doing. One becomes a painter by painting. If one wants to become a painter, if one has passion, if one feels what you feel, then one can do it, but this can go hand in hand with difficulty, worries, disappointments, times of melancholy, of powerlessness and all that."

Letter by Van Gogh to his brother Theo, 16 October 1883.

Silent Night

Silent Night

Painting this night scene inspired me to write .....

As the light of the day
                                                     takes refuge,
                                                     the somber hues
                                                     of the night so silent
                                                     appear.

                                                     The moon shines bright,
                                                     shadows emerge
                                                     in the deep dark forest.

                                                     A certain whiteness
                                                     unfurls
                                                     through the trees
                                                     and branches.

                                                    The still waters
                                                    of the oceans and seas
                                                    start to communicate
                                                    with the rising tide.

From my Archives

Faces

These are pencil sketches I did over thirty years ago.
I found my old sketchbook and was amazed to see some
of my drawings. Had to use a little contrast and brightness to tweek them
since they'd faded quite a bit.

"A woman has many faces as she goes through her life.
It's like we need more than one hair-do. We have many changes in the evolution of our lives.
We have, we learn, and we grow; we view life differently, and life views us differently."
